Academic Learning Center and Campus Renovations
multi-Phased Hagg Sauer Academic Learning Center and campus renovations
The new Hagg Sauer Academic Learning Center and Campus Renovations was a multi-phased project for the construction of a new technologically advanced classroom building and renovation of four existing campus buildings at Bemidji State University. The new ALC classroom building provides a flexible and forward-looking learning and teaching environment for the BSU students and faculty. The overall goal of the project was to create space to facilitate evolving pedagogies and technologies, and enable and support all dimensions of learning.
The new Hagg Sauer Hall was designed to facilitate the development of students’ knowledge and skills in evolving fields by prioritizing innovative classroom learning space in the new 27,700 GSF classroom building. The building features smart classrooms, a 340-seat auditorium, and informal study and gathering spaces that are filled with natural light and views of Lake Bemidji. The building and site were designed with sustainable and resilient strategies to comply with Minnesota B3 guidelines and the goals of Bemidji State University.
The project also included extensive renovations of Bangsberg Hall, Bensen Hall, Clark Library, and Sattgast Hall, where classroom and teaching spaces were enhanced for general use, as well as for specialized departmental functions such as the campus music department at Bangsberg Hall, and the new collaborative and technology-rich learning areas within Clark Library.
